![]() ![]() and vimium it's difficult to truly avoid using the mouse) and that's when a tab popped up after using the quickfix window (vimgrepped when following :grep wasn't working for me on win7) and I didn't know how to close it because I use the plain buffers and windows (and only 2 or 3 windows at a time) instead of the tabs which as far as I can tell is mostly a way to make those more comfortable with other tabbed editors adjust to vim or for those who need lots of windows open (for whatever reason). You obviously believe there's a better workflow but again, no explanation in either post what that better workflow is or how to implement it.įYI, In other ways I don't use vim like other editors, I've touched the mouse once since I started using vim (well, for vim, I'm on windows and even with alt-tab, etc. u/Watabou90 mentioned "visual swapping" with ctrl-r " but that did nothing for me and I didn't see anything with a quick dip into the docs. I want it to act like other editors primarily because I don't know how working with it as it is currently set up is useful and no one has mentioned how it might be. I'd assumed that it was meant for me due to the use of "you" in the context of the OP (which is me, and honestly I don't use reddit much except for the CS50 subreddit which often has new people, so sorry if any of that sounded rude :) ). Vnoremap p "_dP |"um, visual paste is yanking!? ![]() " make replacements behave more logically have I missed something obvious?Ĭan anyone explain why the vnoremaps aren't doing as I'd expect, and even better, show the proper mapping to do what I want?Įdit: so it seems simply visually selecting something is causing that selection to replace the default yank/paste register. However I just found out that they're not (I don't do much in visual mode). So I have this chunk of mappings in my vimrc and honestly hadn't tested whether the visual maps were working and just assumed they did because the normal maps did (I've only been using (g)vim for about a month, windows 7 OS in case it matters). me mumbles "stupid set clipboard=unnamed option from the vimrc I'd started with" And please those of you who deign to grace us with your vim wisdom - be kind.
